About This Project

rTMS (repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation)

Claims have been made as to the possibility of using rTMS techniques to enhance certain human cognitive faculties. In order to investigate these possibilities, a novel rTMS high-voltage pulsed circuit architecture was developed, coupled to a patent-pending high-efficiency stimulator coil. These design enhancements allow the operating voltage and current to be substantially reduced, allowing for safer operation and providing more universal applications for both experimental and clinical work.

rTMS – In Home Treatment Unit

The development of a light-weight patent-pending rTMS stimulator coil by HRI allowed for the first time the development of a complete portable rTMS stimulator system for home use. Currently all commercial rTMS devices are designed for use in clinics or hospitals. This invention allows the mental-health treatment to come to the patient rather than the patient coming to the hospital. HRI has assigned the technology to TeleMag Health Solutions (www.telemaghealth.com) who have just won a grant from the Ontario Brain Institute to further the development of the technology towards commercialization.
